It’s been a long journey so far in the saga of Geoff Buys Cars, so let’s take a look back at some of the cars that didn’t make the cut… Sent to the big scrapyard in the sky.
Considering Geoff Buys Cars cars tend to be at the lower end of the automotive budget, only a surprisingly small number have moved on to automotive heaven. Five ex Geoff cars have been scrapped or parted out so far, 4 of which were won in Geoffles. Would you guess which cars it is before scrolling down?!
The Calypso Red BMW 728i
This was the very first Geoffle car, won by Craig from Wales. It lasted a good few months before meeting an untimely demise, and the way Craig told it was like this… He was catching up with an old friend and had left the engine running with the car in Park whilst time ran away from him. In true BMW style it threw a fault from the cooling system, and promptly overheated and grenades itself whilst Craig and his friend looked on. That was the end of the 728! It was ported out we don’t think it’ll ride again. Still, Craig only spent £10 on his ticket, so it still came out well for him.
The Volvo 480 Special Edition
The Volvo 480 is more of a funny story, but only because the new owner took the situation so well. I’d bought this car about 36 hours before it was given away in a Geoffle, and that really wasn’t enough time for me to discover that it had some fundamental problems. I’d joked in the video of this car that finding water bottles in a used vehicle is never a good sign, and sure enough, the cooling system would be the Achilles heel of this car too. Jack won it in the Geoffle and arrived to collect the car, but the car had other ideas – he made it about 98% of the journey home before it overheated, showing all the hallmarks of a blown head gasket. Jack had the car recovered, parked it in his garage and left it… before eventually phoning the scrap man, and making a £200 return on his £9 investment.

The Citroen Xsara Picasso
This beautiful black Citroen Xsara Picasso was purchased to be a booby prize, intended to be a ‘yay I won a car – no, it’s awful’ bit of humour for a Geoffle. It was won by Jim, who sent me a message the next day basically saying ‘thanks but no thanks, is there anyone we can donate it to?!’. As it happens, there was, and Sam’s Dad got in touch the very same morning saying he needed a car for a little bit – so that was what we did! The Picasso was given to Tom, Sam and the family, and when they were finished with it, they weighed it in. It was a fair bit heavier than standard thanks to all the sand we added…
The Audi A8 V8 3.7
Arguably the most tragic car shown here is the Audi A8 3.7 V8, won by Chris in the Luxury Special Playoffs. This mighty car was always going to be a risk at the Geoff Price Point, and after enjoying it for a number of months, it was eventually taken down by a plethora of electrical gremlins. Chris’s little lad gave the accelerator one good solid push through the carpet to hear that V8 scream before the car was towed away by the scrap man for the princely return of £400. Another customer who was very happy with his £10 Geoffle.

The Subaru Impreza Estate
The final car that met an unlikely demise was the Subaru Impreza Estate, which was sold to donate it’s organs to help others live more fulfilled lives… basically Fellows Speed Shop bought it from me on Facebook Marketplace, then tore the engine out to power a Volkswagen Campervan. In the process they also taught me about Subaru Impreza rust and showed me all the reasons why mine should never have had a valid MOT in the first place! I got £800 for the car, making a small profit and had a great day out at Fellows Speed Shop. Another happy Geoff customer! I also kept all the Subaru badges from the boot, so they’ll be appearing sometime soon… Watch the Subaru video
That’s it for now, let’s hope this list doesn’t grow any longer!
