COMMUNITY & CHARITY

The original goal behind Geoff Buys Cars was to turn a canoe into a Porsche by trading up. As time has gone by, the concept of has changed and adjusted. What started as a selfish desire to own a 911 has grown into a community of like minded enthusiasts. In all honesty… I’m no longer bothered about the Porsche.

The Facebook page was launched first, followed by an ‘insider group’ – a place to post updates about what cars were incoming, as well as to ask followers their thoughts on what cars should be next. I remember reaching 50 members and thinking that was impressive! The group now has more than 1,700 members. (edit, now it’s over 2,000).

As mental health and self-care is a big part of my life, it has always been at the forefront of my facebook posts, youtube videos and live broadcasts. This struck a chord with people, and proved that it wasn’t just me. The ‘Pop The Kettle On’ group came next, a private Facebook group where people can share in a safe environment – all pinned around a shared love of oddball old cars.

THE GEOFF BUYS CARS INSIDER GROUP > Find it here
This is the main page where you’ll find updates on what’s happening with Geoff Buys Cars and information, photos and videos that don’t make it to the blog or YouTube channel

THE ‘LOOK WHAT I FOUND GEOFF’ RETRO CAR SALES GROUP > Find it here
This is where you’ll find cool cars for sale, or a place where you can post cool automotive things you’ve found or seen out and about. Seen a bargain someone should buy? Post it up!

THE MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP > Find it here
Mental Health is important to me. Blokes, as a general rule, don’t talk about stuff as much as we should. Statistically speaking, as a chap in. my mid 30s, I’m more likely to die as a result of suicide than pretty much any other cause, and that’s tragic… Especially as I have two small humans and a wife who love me. I’ve had my own struggle with mental health over the years, and wanted Geoff Buys Cars to be a platform to allow us crazy car guys to be there for each other, even if it’s in the smallest way.

CHARITY AND FUND RAISING

The online car giveaways, live broadcasts and events have been a format to raise money for some very good causes. So far Geoff Buys Cars has raised money for our local primary school, MIND mental health and CoppaFeel!

Edit…. since this was written, Geoff Buys Cars has also made charitable donations to various campaigns that appear on social media, including making a significant contribution to a Geoffista’s campaign to get more toys and games at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. If there’s a little money in the pot and a campaign catches my eye, I always try to help, especially if it’s Geoff followers sharing causes that matter to them.
