2005 Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCi

This car is offered by Geoffista Matt.

All of the text below was written in 2023, a year ago!

I got the car from Matt, ran it for a little while then Geoffled it to another chap called Matt. Matt then ran it for a year, and has just put a fresh MOT on it.

Words from January 2023:
The most sensible Geoff car so far?! Crikey… look at this beauty…!

Not long after my post about ‘cars I used to own’, Geoffista Matt gets in touch saying this beautiful Mondeo has dropped into his lap. It is of course an 2.2 TDCi ST (155ps) in what I think is known as Panther Black.

It’s one of those ‘friend of a friend’ cars that arrived with Matt cheaply in one of those ‘oh you know a little bit about cars would you like this…?’ sort of situations. (Daughter’s-Best-Friends-Dad).

The car was purchased by Matt’s-Daughter’s-Best-Friends-Dad directly from Ford, so the V5 shows only one previous owner.

Matt’s-Daughter’s-Best-Friends-Dad racked up 223,894 miles before Matt acquired it without the MOT, and Matt is the kinda guy that has to have things just right. So despite the fail sheet, it now has a fresh ticket. Although the paintwork shows it’s age, Matt says it drives beautifully and anything it needed doing has been done – with a gigantic stack of invoices to show it. Matt also tells me it had a clutch done 50k miles ago (big job on these as it’s dual mass flywheel) and it’s also all new shocks, plus it just had the brakes done for the MOT. So a lot of money has been spent on this car. From memory, shocks can be expensive on these too.

For my two pence, having owned a Mondeo with this same engine, this is the perfect long term family motor car. They even have heated AND cooled seats!

**EDIT** we don’t think it has this option, I thought all ST TDCi came with these as standard but can’t see the buttons in the photos and Matt says no… anyone know whether this was an option, or became standard fit later..?

Yes, the mileage is high, but it has been well maintained, is super genuine and has just been MOT’d ready for another year.

The 155hp engine has unbelievable amounts of torque and will return 55mpg – you may recall I won a drag race in my Mondeo, whilst fully loaded, going up a hill and towing a caravan.

This is one of those cars from the early-mid 2000’s that is built to last. With the right maintenance and care, like the Volvos I keep banging on about, this car would last a lifetime.

My advice? Go over the underside with a good quality rubdown and underseal and keep on top of the paintwork… then enjoy the next 200,000 miles until the government stop us from doing so.
