If you’re anything like me, you spend a lot of time on eBay, Facebook Marketplace and the Darker side of Auto Trader. As I spend so much time frequenting these locations on the interweb, Mark Zuckerburg and his team have got the algorithm down to a tee, and they know the best way to ensure I maximise my time sat on the toilet quietly poo-browsing whilst the kids shout and scream and the wife moans is to present my cellular device with prime cuts of the finest cars from Sweden and Bavaria.
Many a happy hour is wiled away in the downstairs toilet, shirking my responsibilities whilst quietly disposing of the day’s mastications. During one of these mindfulness sessions I happened upon the sort of listing that makes me verbally utter ‘ooooohh yes’ in a way that makes the wife think I’m doing something else entirely in the bathroom.
This wasn’t just any Saab, it was a 2003 Saab 9-5 Turbo Hot Aero Turbo Hot Turbo Hot Aero, and if you are familiar with my videos, these are some of my favourites from the automotive box of chocolates that is cars from the late 1990s and 2000s.
Showing just over 130,000 miles, with a few small issues and short MOT, it had my name all over it. It’s missing the temperature sensor because the seller wiped out a pheasant and ripped off an under tray, which is conveniently stowed in the boot now. The seller also states that the engine light is on (probably an 02 sensor, always is, in fact I think this was the problem with my other Aero estate) and there’s a slight knock from the front suspension. Not a bad list for a 250hp car!
I messaged the seller and sure enough, so had a whole heap of other people, but when I send a link to my YouTube channel it was the Pablo video that swung the ball in my favour. “After just watching your video on the 9000 CSE I couldn’t be happier that it could go to someone like you!” Was his reply, so we agreed a deal and I even said I’d buy him a coffee or two at a local car show where the handover would take place.
So why did I want this car?
I’ve owned 2x Saab 9-5 Aero HOT Turbos in the past, an automatic saloon and an automatic estate, but I’d not yet indulged in a manual car, and a manual car with lowered springs in is just what I had in mind for the next Geoff Buys Cars foray into Swedish Sweetness.
The car arrives with me on Saturday and I’m really rather excited to share it with you….
