2002 Ford Focus ST170
I had to take my Volvo up to Squire Automotive aka Midland Volvo Specialists and wanted to buy a car up that way for the 1hr and a bit drive home. After spending an evening browsing the usual Geoff fodder of Swedes, Wagons and Cabriolets, I found this…

I love my St170 as well.. Love Ford Focus-Foci’ in general..had original 1.6 4 door Zetec, used it as a works car (Surveyor) both daughters then used it for uni, then general car all weathers, long, short journeys, never ever a problem with the engine/electrics/structure. First daughter took it on for Uni.
At the 300,046 mile mark after she had it for three years and on the way home @ the motorway junction turn off, the engine stopped… and would not re start. Turned out to be a cracked ECU main circuit board. ECU Doctor repair and it kept going until the 2nd daughter finished uni and at the 310,536 miles it finally gave up the ghost needing a full engine refurb and was scrapped due to chassis welding/engine rebuild. We then got a 5 door 2ltr Zetec that’s the current workhorse with a mere 153,000 miles on and a sweet £640 ST170 3 door that’s turning out to be unbreakable fun. Clutch pedal pipe split in the wing so a direct braded hose via the engine bay fitted and that’s the only failure in the now 20,000ish miles we have had it. Again total reliability and all day grin. WHY WHY WHY dont they still make these cars. They are by far the most reliable cars I’ve had.
