So here’s a brief update on the Volvo… This car was bought ‘pre corona’ and needed more work than I had hoped, BUT I invested the extra and got it all done. Being a 1 owner from new car that was immaculate inside, it seemed a shame to give up on the old girl.

Both rear callipers were refurbished, it had new discs and pads, a service and an MOT. An ABS light was sorted, too, down to some faulty sensors.
All this work meant I needed more money for the car to get to where it needed to be financially and to make the Geoff Buys Cars project work, so it was a slow sell. I began to lose heart, and then… the dreaded C word arrived.
Early on in the C crisis things looked bleak and I actually had to return my company car, so for a short while it looked like the Volvo was going to be called into duty as the daily driver and that the Geoff Buys Cars project would have to stop!
As a result, the car was never properly photographed and it didn’t get the proper Geoff Buys treatment (there isn’t much video content for this one).
Anyway, things turned out pretty well.
A nice chap got in touch from Nottinghamshire who was looking for a clean and tidy and well cared for 850 after falling out of love with the more modern (and more complex V70), so not only did he pay the asking price, he paid a contribution to the MOT work and for delivery.
I drove the car up and he was thrilled to bits with it. Since then he’s sent me a couple of messages to update on progress with the car, and once C is over, he’ll be getting the bodywork all sorted.
This was an interesting one because it shows just how easy it is to end up in the ‘no profit’ zone. As it turned out this car did quite alright.
After a bit of juggling, the company car was replaced with a £600 Astra and the Geoff Project was put on pause….
UNTIL NOW!
I replaced the big Swede with a younger, fitter model.
Geoff Buys Cars #4 is a Saab 9-5 HOT Aero.
(A car that’s definitely on the original hit list)
